A volunteer writers group has been given a helping hand by Conservative-led West Lindsey District Council. Newsline, a monthly village newsletter for Blyborough, Grayingham and Willoughton, has received a £400 grant from the Councillor Initiative Fund.
All district councillors are allocated £4,000 to spend over two years on projects in their ward. This can be divided up between several good causes.
Cllr. Paul Howitt-Cowan, Conservative ward member for Hemswell, is using part of his allocation for the magazine, which needed help to cover the costs of printer ink and maintenance. Mrs. Mavis Christie from Willoughton, is the volunteer editor of Newsline. She said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have received this help. Most of the people who get Newsline are pensioners, so this means that we can keep providing them with information and news.
“We have a team of eight volunteers, including a representative from each village, and we cover bin dates, gardening tips, a feature each month plus lots more.”
Cllr. Howitt-Cowan, said:
“Newsline is a valued source of information for the parishes of Willoughton, Blyborough and Grayingham, which is produced by volunteers monthly.
“It is inclusive - embracing all kind of news sport, church, and clubs etc and is living proof of the existence of vibrant communities supported by volunteers. Localism’ is nothing new in this neck of the woods!
“I congratulate Mavis and her team for collating the news and publishing Newsline.”
