A development of affordable housing in Nettleham designed exclusively for over 55s was officially opened during a ceremony hosted by LACE Housing last week.
The Burrows, situated off Deepdale Lane in Nettleham, consists of 22 two-bedroom apartments for rent and 14 two-bedroom bungalows for shared ownership.
The development offers a fully furnished communal area, with the 22 apartments including a fully fitted kitchen, lounge and en suite bathroom with level access.
Nick Chambers, Chief Executive of LACE Housing, said:
“These new homes support people over 55 in Nettleham to remain independent. Our new residents can live in safe, secure housing without the risk of becoming isolated.”
The Burrows is surrounded by open countryside and is within easy reach of a wide range of amenities including local shops, a Post Office, public houses and the village hall, and residents have access to excellent public transport into nearby Lincoln.
Cllr Steve England, Chairman of West Lindsey District Council, spoke at the opening, and was keen to emphasise the positive impact this will have for people in the local area. He said:
“Nettleham is a beautiful village, and many people want to stay here as they age. This development offers superb facilities for those people, it’s a brilliant addition to Nettleham.”
Lindum Construction began work on the £4.8m development in July 2018, after the launch of the Nettleham Parish Plan revealed a growing need for affordable accommodation for older people in the area.
Managing Director of Lindum Construction Simon Gregory said:
“To build this development, money has been spent with local suppliers and local subcontractors, paying local wages to spend in local shops.”
The Burrows was officially opened by Nettleham Parish Cllr John Evans and children from Nettleham Infant and Junior schools.
The school children chose the name of the development, and visited the site on a number of occasions during construction to learn about the location, its history and how the building work was progressing.
The access road – Frith Close – has been named by Nettleham Parish Council in recognition of the service of Cllr Alf Frith within the village. Cllr Firth served 50 years at Nettleham Parish Council and 27 years at West Lindsey District Council.
