A dedicated team from Conservative-led West Lindsey District Council spent their Sunday distributing sandbags to residents whose homes were threatened by flooding.
Five staff from the operational services team responded to about a dozen calls for help from across the district. Staff took sandbags to three homes in Middle Rasen, and helped residents of six properties at risk of flooding in Lindholme, Scotter. They also spent time helping residents at addresses in Riverside and Clay Lane, also on the banks of the River Eau.
The Council's staff provided sandbags to six properties in Dunholme, and responded to calls for support from Langworth and Sturton-by-Stow. One property in Saxilby was also affected by flooding.
River levels across the county were expected to rise as recent heavy rainfall reached rivers and dykes, however watercourses were predicted to contain this and there is no more significant rain forecast the coming week.
The council’s operational services team remain fully prepared to react to calls from residents whose homes are at immediate risk of flooding. Cllr. Malcolm Parish, Chairman of the Council’s Prosperous Communities Committee, said:
“The council’s operational services team have worked hard during the weekend to ensure residents received the help they needed.
“So far the district has been fortunate to escape the level of flooding we have seen across the rest of the country, and I hope this continues to be the case.
“Since the devastating floods of 2007, when 450 properties in the district were flooded, the council has worked hard, through a variety of funding and schemes, to safeguard communities from the risk of flooding.”
Improved flood defences have been provided in Fiskerton, Waddingham, Scotter, Sturton-by-Stow and Saxilby, while £10,000 has been invested in town and parish councils to use for flood prevention.
