Member of Parliament for the Gainsborough Constituency, Edward Leigh MP, has welcomed the announcement of planned refurbishment of the Caistor Post Office.
The Post Office, located in the Market Place in Caistor, will be one of 6,000 branches to be upgraded as part of a programme over the next three years. The Post Office’s refurbishment will include a new interior space designed to provide a more modern and convenient retails experience for customers.
Local residents will not lose out, the Post Office will continue to provide the same products and service as it does currently, but local people will benefit from extended opening hours – opening from 8:30am until 6:00pm on weekdays and opening Saturdays between 8:30pm and 5:30pm.
The branch will close on Wednesday 3rd April at close of business and is expected to reopen, refreshed and refurbished, welcoming customers on Friday, 12th April. The branch will also have a hearing loop installed for the benefit of those with hearing aids. During the disruption local residents are asked to consider making use of Keelby Post Office or Barnetby Post Office. Edward Leigh said:
“Local shops and the pub together with a Post Office form the core of most rural communities. Any improvements to the fabric of these important assets is to be welcome. I am particularly pleased that the opening hours at the Caistor Post Office will be extended.
“I am consistently championing our Post Office network, and got agreement for the DVLA to sell Car Tax discs through the Post Office last year. When I was Post Office Minister I fought to give Post Offices viable income streams, and it’s something which I still strongly believe in today.
“I think that we should be doing all that we can to ensure that we have a thriving Post Office system fit for the future.”
