Local Conservatives have, this evening, welcomed Conservative County Council Leader, Cllr. Martin Hill OBE, to their Supper Club event. He was warmly received and spoke about the challenges and tough decisions the ruling Conservative Group, on Lincolnshire County Council, face in delivering £125 million of savings in the authority's budget.
The event took place at the White Heather, Caenby Corner, near Market Rasen and guests were treated to a sumptuous, three course, dinner.
Following dinner, Cllr. Hill, who represents the Folkingham Rural South Division in the south of the county, spoke about the difficulties of delivering for the future, and making Lincolnshire ready for the changes that will come with time. He mentioned that for the second year running, Lincolnshire County Council intends to freeze its council tax, so local residents won’t pay a penny more for all the services the county council provides. He also mentioned the implementation of Labour's 'Personalisation' agenda for Adult Social Care, being continued by the Coalition Government.
Besides freezing council tax, the Conservative-led authority's proposals continue the difficult job of providing essential, value-for-money frontline services on a greatly reduced income. As many people will know, Lincolnshire County Council has to save £125 million over four years as the country seeks to cut the national deficit. For the authority, the loss of income has meant tough choices over the past year. Some services have had to be reduced or stopped. Others are being provided differently. Cllr. Hill spoke about the volunteers who now help support the opening of libraries.
Cllr. Hill was clear that none of the decisions taken were easy; but they were absolutely necessary. He also mentioned that it leaves the council well-placed for the year ahead and beyond. Cllr. Hill took a number of questions from the floor; including outlining how prayers were now being taken before Council meeting commensed.
Cllr. William Parry, Association Deputy Chairman (Membership & Fundraising), provided a vote of thanks.
