Local Conservatives are delighted that national league tables published today for 2011 show Lincolnshire’s schools continue to provide an excellent education for our young people, with results for GCSEs above the national average.
Results for 16-year olds at GCSE show the 5 A*-C including English and maths pass rate was 62.2% - a rise of 3% on the previous year. It is now 4% above the national average. Out of 152 local authorities, Conservative-run Lincolnshire is now ranked 32nd, a rise of two places from 2010 and placing the county in the top 25% of all authorities.
Three schools achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate against this measure - the King’s School in Grantham, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Horncastle and Caistor Grammar School.
In addition, the proportion of pupils making the expected progress or better in English and maths across the county remains higher than the national average. The results for 5 A*-C grades increased to 84%, 5% above the national average and the percentage of pupils achieving the recently introduced English Baccalaureate* in Lincolnshire rose to 18.6%, nearly 2% higher than the national average.
At post-16, 92.1% achieved two or more A-level passes which, once more, is above the percentage nationally. Lincolnshire students continue to achieve more points per candidate than in many other areas making them well qualified for the best universities. Students also continue to achieve more points per subject than the national average, improving again on the 2010 performance.
Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children’s Services, said:
"Once more Lincolnshire students have achieved some fantastic results, whether in schools, academies or colleges. It is pleasing to see results continue to improve year after year. These are difficult times for young people but their achievements and qualifications should help towards securing jobs and other opportunities. Together with their parents, carers and teachers, they all deserve recognition for an outstanding year of success for Lincolnshire."
