Sir Edward Leigh, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Gainsborough, has made it clear that a Conservative Government will be committed to our armed services. Sir Edward said:

“As our manifesto states ‘We will maintain a balanced defence budget and give our Armed Forces the equipment they need’ and that’s a promise I am proud to support.

“I know the important role of NATO in maintaining the freedoms we are so fortunate to enjoy, which is why I am personally committed to the target of two per cent of GDP being spent on defence.

“The Prime Minister has promised that he will not allow any more reductions in the size of the regular Army and I fully support that. He has also promised to increase spending on military equipment by one per cent a year in real terms from 2015 to 2020.”
