Sir Edward Leigh, who has served as Member of Parliament for our area, since 1983 is seeking re-election and yesterday submitted his nomination papers to the returning officer.
With the local elections last week now behind us the Association's focus has moved towards the UK Parliamentary General Election, taking place on Thursday, 8th June 2017. Sir Edward Leigh will again contest the seat for the Conservative Party, in his ninth time on the ballot paper in this area. Sir Edward said:
"This will be my ninth general election and I look forward to it as much as I did 34 years ago when I was first elected to represent the the Gainsborough and Horncastle constituency. Last week we launched my campaign in the Moot Hall at Holton-le-Moor and yesterday I went to the Guildhall to submit my nomination papers."
Like the Prime Minister, Theresa May, Sir Edward has always believed that campaigns are about meeting people. The Prime Minister has already have travelled over 2,400 miles across the country to 31 separate campaign events, but Sir Edward began his Constituency Tour yesterday in Corringham. Giles McNeill, Sir Edward Leigh's Agent commented:
"Even after 34 years as our Member of Parliament Sir Edward is always eager to campaign. He really does relish the opportunity to get out into the constituency and knock on doors; and, as in previous years, he will visit every town, village, and small community throughout the constituency between now and polling day."
