Conservatives in the Gainsborough Constituency have been celebrating the successful re-election of Sir Edward Leigh, as the Member of Parliament, who saw his eighth general election victory and substantially increased his majority.
Despite a marathon count, with turnout high at 67.3%, Sir Edward was declared victorious shortly after 7:00am on Friday, 8th May 2015, with an increased majority of 15,449 (up 4,899). The result was:
- Sir Edward Leigh (Conservative) - 25,949 (52.7%) up 3.4%
- David Prescott (Labour) - 10,500 (21.3%) up 5.7%
- John Saxon (UK Independence Party) - 7,727 (15.7%) up 11.5%
- Lesley Rollings (Liberal Democrat) - 3,290 (6.7%) down 21.2%
- Geoffrey Barnes (Green) - 1,290 (2.6%) up 2.6
- Chris Darcel (Lincolnshire Independent) - 505 (1.0%) up 1.0%

"This a terrific result! Sir Edward has always campaigned hard, touring the whole constituency during the campaign and he works hard as a constituency MP, making sure that he deals with people's requests.
"The Liberal Democrats have suffered their worst performance since 1951 have been knocked back from the second place they achived in 2010 and 2005."
