West Lindsey District Council has welcome back, Cllr. Mrs. Jessie Milne, a Conservative councillor who represents the Lea Ward, as the new Chairman of the Council.
Outgoing Chairman Cllr. William Parry handed over the chain of office to Cllr. Mrs. Milne, who has been his deputy for the past year. He said:
"I hope that I have done the district proud, by highlighting some of our achievements and showing just what our district has to offer new employers and developers."
Cllr. Parry said he was ‘fortunate’ to be invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace and meet H.R.H. Prince Charles on a visit to the University of Lincoln's Riseholme College.
The Gainsborough based councillor, who was fully supported by his wife Janet, said he ‘greatly enjoyed’ meeting a wide variety of people. He added:
"I enjoyed two industrial visits, Hooton Engineering, and Eco Plastics, a look around the Minesweeper HMS Brocklesby when it was docked at Grimsby. I had an interesting tour of Caistor during their open Gardens Day and an excellent band Concert at Market Rasen. I also enjoyed the two visits to Gainsborough Old Hall for the Beer Festival and the reopening after the refurbishment."
Cllr. Parry has helped raise awareness and money for the Royal British Legion and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. The full total is still being calculated and will be published on the council’s website. He said:
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for donating money for these two worthy causes."
Cllr. Mrs. Milne is looking forward to her year ahead as Chairman, a position she previously held in 2009/10.
"I am thrilled to be chairman of West Lindsey District Council for the second time. My aim is to do as much as I can, last time as Chairman, I felt as if I didn’t have enough time to do everything I wanted to, so I am going to start projects earlier."
The Chairman’s charities this year are:
- The Stroke Association (East Midlands branch)
- The Lincolnshire Air Cadets
