Local Conservatives have welcomed victory in a local by-election. The Conservative Party Candidate Bob Waller secured the vacant seat in a by-election contest for the Sudbrooke Ward of West Lindsey District Council for the Party.
The contest followed the resignation, and subsequent sad & untimely death, of former Conservative district councillor Stuart Curtis.
An efficient count was undertaken at Sudbrooke Village Hall and it soon became clear that Bob had secured a win for the Conservatives. He said:
“I want to thank the Returning Officer, the polling station staff and all those that kept the polling stations open throughout this election.
“I am very grateful to everyone who has supported me with a special mention to my Agent, Giles McNeill who both worked tirelessly to make this win happen. It would not have been possible without the dozens of local volunteers who came out campaigning
“I am particularly grateful to my supportive wife Sue.
“I wish to thank everyone who has participated in today's election and wish my opponent well. I will work hard for everyone across the Sudbrooke Ward in my new role as district councillor and I hope we can all come together to make this ward and West Lindsey a great place to live and work.”
Conservative Party Agent, Giles McNeill added:
“A small increase in the share of votes for the Party is always very welcome. It is a credit to Bob, and a fitting final tribute to Stuart, that the Conservative vote has held up so strongly. After nine years in power at the council, seven years in government, all the time protecting delivery of frontline local services, as funding from central government disappears to still be holding strong is a real achievement.”
Sir Edward Leigh MP commented:
“I am delighted to hear that Bob Waller has won his seat on the council. As a local parish councillor, trustee of Sudbrooke Village Hall and a former army officer I am sure he will add to the many talents of the ruling Conservative Group.”
The result of the Scotter and Blyton Ward of West Lindsey District Council contest was:
- Bob Waller, Conservative 391 (69.6%) Elected
- Gareth Hart, Labour 171 (31.4%)
Turnout 26.6% | Swing: 5.85% from the Conservatives to Labour
