Emma McClarkin MEP, who is one of five representives for the East Midlands region, has addressed Conservative Party members and supporters following a lunch in Market Rasen.
Miss McClarkin was elected to the European Parliament in June 2009 and is seeking re-election on Thursday, 22nd May 2014; she is top of the Conservative list of candidates, who are elected using the D'Hondt system (explanation here). Miss Mclarkin addressed activists about her role as a European parliamentarian and how she consistently fights for Britain's interest. One specific example of the change that Miss McClarkin had made to European law, which has a direct and beneficial effect of the lives of local people, was that it is now the case that if a professional, such as a doctor, is struck-off from practice in one EU member country, the other professional bodies in the other countries are notified. Miss McClarkin took a couple of questions from those present and Mr. Kelly Smith, the Association's Deputy Chairman (Membership & Fundraising), provided a vote of thanks.
Those attending the lunch, held at the Advocate Arms in Market Rasen, enjoyed a delicious meal of fillet of salmon with a lemon sauce, new potatoe gratin, wilted spinich and assorted, roasted seasonal vegetables, followed by a choice of Chocolate Fudge Brownie and ice cream or fig, orange and pear crumble with vanilla custard.
