Conservative-led West Lindsey District Council will begin to collect large items again from this week after temporarily stopping the service in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Collections will begin from Tuesday, 28th April and households can make a booking now at  www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/bulky or by calling 01427 676676. Phone lines are likey to be busy, so residents are asked to book via the website if at all possible.

New safety measures are in place for the small team that delivers the service with crew members working to social distancing guidelines. It is important for residents to leave their items accessible the night before collection day as operatives are not able to enter houses to assist.

Bulky waste prices vary depending on the items collected, but start from £32 (which is solely to cover the cost of collection and disposal)

Cllr. Owen Bierley, Conservative Chairman of Prosperous Communities at the Council, said:

“We had to suspend the service at the start of the coronavirus outbreak as we concentrate our limited resources in best helping our affected communities, but we’re now in a position to bring it back.

“It’s a popular service and makes it easy for households to get rid of big and bulky items such as cabinets, washing machines, exercise bikes and garden furniture.

“We want to do everything we can to help people during the lockdown and the service will be running three days per week, instead of the usual two.”

Meanwhile, staff from across the council’s Operational Services team are continuing to carry out their vital duties as they adapt to new working methods due to social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus outbreak. Bin crews have had change the way the work to help keep the service running during the pandemic.

A series of substantial changes are in place to help keep them safe even when they have to share a cab with colleagues. There has been little disruption to waste and recycling collections so far, but the Council are appealing for residents to continue to assist them by following updates and advice at www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/coronavirus

Residents are advised to avoid generating extra waste but if that isn’t possible they should store the waste safely until Household Waste Recycling Centre’s reopen. If residents do decide to ask someone to take the waste away, they should check they are licensed waste carriers https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers
